A plastic alternative has been created using cactus juice! 🌵🧃

Researcher and chemical engineer Sandra Pascoe Ortiz combined the juice of prickly pear cacti (opuntia spp.) with other natural and nontoxic ingredients to produce the plastic alternative. It’s fully biodegradable and breaks down in soil within a few months, if it ends up in the ocean it dissolves within just 1 week… it’s even edible!

It’s still early days, but this could be a real solution to the plastic waste problem seen across the globe.
